2017 Diageo sportMoray Recognition Awards

The Diageo sportMoray Awards were held on Tues 21st November at Elgin Town Hall.  Over 250 people packed into the Town Hall to help celebrate the talent and dedication we have in sport across the Moray area.

SALSC Local Service to Sport Award: Winner of this Award was Ann Rossiter from Forres for her involvement in a range of sports.  Others shortlisted for this Award were Jenny Bichan from Findhorn for athletics and Monica Grant from Lossiemouth for golf.

Junior Sports Athlete Award: Winner of this Award was Ruby Boyd from Elgin in the sport of figure skating.  Others shortlisted for this Award were Owen Carroll from Forres in swimming, Tamsin Fowlie from Elgin in athletics, Hannah Kingham from Fochabers in athletics, Adele Williamson from Elgin in kickboxing, Isobel Howard from Rafford in orienteering, Bruce Evans from Forres in Cross Country/Triathlon, Cara Coull from Buckie in kickboxing, Rory Wood from Forres in quad bike racing and Caitlin Raffan from Elgin in archery.

Veteran Sports Athlete Award: Winner of this Award was Andy Adam from Elgin in the sport of Taekwondo.  The other person shortlisted for this Award was Simon Clark from Kinloss in athletics.

Intermediate Team Award: Winner of this Award was Elgin High School Cricket Team.  Others shortlisted for this Award were Buckie High Under 14 Boys Football Team and Forres Academy Orienteering Team.

Senior Team Award: Winner of this Award was Milnes Archery Club.  The other team shortlisted for this Award was Forres St Lawrence Cricket Club.

Coach Award: There were joint winners of the Award – Bill Cooke from Portessie in the sport of jogging/running and Jacky Barrere from Forres in the sport of trampolining.  Others shortlisted for this Award were Scott Hamilton from Elgin in athletics, Diane Stuart from Elgin in kickboxing and John McMulkin from Elgin in mountain biking.

Club Level Award: Winner of this Award was Jane McKenzie from Keith in the sports of football, athletics and rugby.  Others shortlisted for this Award were Lindsay Cant from Elgin in fencing and Karen Gerrie from Elgin in jogging.

Community Engagement Award: Winner of this Award was the Hopeman Community Sports Hub.  Others shortlisted for this Award included Moravian Badminton Club, Jamie Stewart from Buckpool in running and the Archiestown BALL Group.

School Sport Volunteer Award: Winner of this Award was Lil Kenyon from Forres in the sports of orienteering and bikeability.  Others shortlisted for this Award were Beth Grant from Elgin in netball. Willie Merchant from Urquhart in hockey, Michelle Slater from Buckie in running, Elaine Penny from Elgin in netball and bikeability, Sarah Scholes and Aileen Robertson from Elgin in hockey, Kathryn Evans from Lossiemouth in netball, Steve Carter from Hopeman in cross country, Mick Curran from Forres in various sports and Debs Gault from Elgin in bikeability.

Special Achievement Award: Winner of this Award was Rebecca Gilchrist from Rothes in the sport of paraclimbing.  Others shortlisted for this Award were Holly McWilliam from Keith in boccia and Daniel Strong from Elgin in boccia.

Intermediate Sportsman Award: Winner of this Award was Kyle Cartmell from Duffus in the sport of cycling.  Others shortlisted for this Award were Kyle Wilkinson from Mulben in athletics, Ruari Mair from Buckie in golf, Oran McKenna from Hopeman in fencing, Stuart Kidd from Lossiemouth in kickboxing, Dylan Parker-Banfield from Lossiemouth in kickboxing, Blair Milne from Orton in athletics and Joshua Milne from Orton in athletics and hockey.

The Heather Stanning Award (Intermediate Sportswoman): Winner of this Award was Mairi Weir from Aberlour in orienteering.  Others shortlisted for this Award were Ellyn Smith from Buckie in cross country/athletics, Georgie Newlands from Archiestown in swimming/athletics, Emily Lawson from Lossiemouth in figure skating, Ellie Mae Scott from Lossiemouth in kickboxing, Hannah Weatherly from Elgin in kickboxing and Rebecca White from Lossiemouth in kickboxing.

Senior Sports Athlete of the Year: Winner of this Award was Anna MacFadyen from Forres in cross country/hill running.  Others shortlisted for this Award were Robbie Bruce from Buckie in football, Damon Sansum from Elgin in Taekwondo and Douglas Ross from Forres in Football refereeing.

Sports Personality of the Year (not a public nomination category): Winner of this Award was Anna MacFadyen from Forres in cross country/hill running.
