The 2016 sportMoray Recognition Awards night took place on Mon 21st November at Elgin Town Hall  and there were 14 categories included as part of the Awards night where Laurence Findlay, Director of Education and Social Care from Moray Council again kindly agreed to be the excellent compere.

Sponsors of the Awards night include – Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils, Dallas Designs, Springfield Properties, The Northern Scot, Gordon & MacPhail, Diageo, NHS Grampian, Active Schools, Elgin Rotary Club, Moray College, Moray Council, Forsyths, Campbell and McConnachie Financial Consultants and sportMoray themselves.

SALSC Local Service to Sport Award – Iain McDonald from Buckie in the sport of cricket.  The others shortlisted for this award were Louise Marshall from Elgin in golf, Graeme Porter (Tiger) from Elgin in football and Teresa Tait from Birnie in tennis.

Junior Sports Athlete Award – Ben Cameron from Forres in the sport of athletics.  The others shortlisted for this award were Tamsin Fowlie from Elgin in athletics and Rory Wood from Forres in Quad Racing.

Veteran Sports Athlete Award – George Grant from Elgin the sport of cycling.  The other person shortlisted for this award was Paul Black from Elgin in cycling.

Club Level Award – Mike Rodgers from Kintessack in the sport of orienteering.  The others shortlisted for this award were Michelle Cooper from Elgin in roller derby, Ron Wild from Grange in athletics, Angus (Gus) Farr from Forres in cricket, Mick Letch from Lossiemouth in rugby union, Jacqueline Barrere from Forres in trampolining and Andrew Smart from Elgin in boxing.

School Sport Volunteer Award – Stuart McQuaker from Birnie in the sport of basketball.  The others shortlisted for this award were Rachel Wolford from Lossiemouth in orienteering, Hayley Burns from Forres in athletics, John Davies from Forres in cycling, Yvonne Stuart from Elgin in rugby union and Antonia (Toni) Taylor from Aberlour in various sports.

Senior Sports Athlete Award – Sandra Dean from Elgin in the sport of bowling.  The others shortlisted for this award were Findlay Donegan from Alves in athletics, Siobhan Kingham from Fochabers in athletics, Kenny Wilson from Craigellachie in athletics, Amy MacDonald from Rafford in curling and Hannah Houliston from Duffus in netball.
