Friendly Access

Friendly Access is a charity (SC045029) which focuses on creating and improving accessibility for everyone, regardless of disability or condition. ‘Seeing the environment as the disabling factor, not the individual’. Established in 2015 in Forres, Moray, we have 3 key areas. Technology, Sport and Education.

We believe everyone should have the choice to take part in adventure sports. We also believe in making access to that sport inclusive, not exclusive. Since piloting the first autism specific surfing classes in Scotland in 2015, we proudly launched Scotland’s first fully adaptive and inclusive surf school SurfABLE Scotland in November 2017, providing the world’s most northerly surfing therapy programme for all (age 5 – adult), including low mobility and wheelchair users. The project mainly operates in Lossiemouth and Sandend and we also cover Caithness to Aberdeen.

Highland Cycle Ability Centre

Active Schools has been working in partnership with this centre to provide opportunities for our young people and raise awareness of this fantastic facility at Cantray near Cawdor. The centre’s aim is to give everyone a safe and enjoyable place to cycle regardless of their ability. They have a fleet of adapted cycles from trikes and tandems to more specially adapted cycles for riders with different disabilities. The centre has a 1.2km track providing a great environment for families of mixed abilities to enjoy a cycle together.

Moray Group Riding for the Disabled

At Moray RDA local young people and adults with individual needs have fun while learning to ride and care for ponies. We meet on a Wednesday from March until the end of June and from August until the end of November. We meet at Cranloch Riding Centre outside Elgin.

We believe in the physical benefits and mental health benefits of riding and contact with horses.

Our key principles are FUN, THERAPY and ACHIEVEMENT.

All our sessions are run by our trained RDA coaches, but we could not manage without the support of our dedicated volunteers. We are ready to welcome new volunteers at any time.

Relaxed Sports for Neurodiverse Children

Keith Active Schools is running a family friendly weekly session each Wednesday of the term until November 2024. The sessions are aimed at P1-P7 pupils with a neurodiverse diagnosis. The aim is to provide a safe space for free play where pupils from different schools can mix and make friends. A small group of Young Leaders join in the fun and make great role models for the younger pupils. The session is also supported by the Active Schools Co-ordinator, school PSA and lead ASN staff.

Parents/guardians have a chance to chat and chill with a tea or coffee in the Community Room at Keith Primary School. A chance to switch off, and also chat to other parents. We hope to invite guest speakers from time to time.
